The Art Of The Frame
This show, featuring 15 artists and one frame maker for an experiment of reverse engineering
a framed work of art, ran for 5 weeks in June & July 2005 at Gallery 360 in South Minneapolis.
The projects premise, conceived and executed by Framemaker Eric Tollefson, is simply the reversal
of the traditional process of creating a piece of art and then taking it to be framed. Each piece
starts with a frame that is custom designed and built for each artist, based not on a particular
piece of art but on their body of work and life as an artist.
It is through the reversal of this process that we can explore questions of inspiration, artistic
collaboration and the role of the frame and frame maker as an engaged aspect of the artistic process.
